Ander Crenshaw (born September 1, 1944 in Jacksonville , Florida ) is an American politician . Since 2001 he has represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives . In 2016 he decided not to run again. As a result, his time as a congressman ended at the end of the legislature on January 3, 2017.

Career

Ander Crenshaw studied at the University of Georgia in Athens until 1966 . This was followed by a law degree at the University of Florida in Gainesville until 1969 . He then worked for a short time as an investment banker. In addition to his political career, he worked as a lawyer. Crenshaw became a member of the Republican Party . In 1978 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of Secretary of State of Florida. From 1972 to 1978 he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives ; between 1986 and 1994 he was a member of the State Senate . In 1992 he became its president. In 1994 he applied unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for the gubernatorial elections : he only finished fourth in the primary ; victorious was Jeb Bush .

In the 2000 congressional elections , Crenshaw was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of Florida , where he succeeded Tillie K. Fowler on January 3, 2001 . After seven re-elections so far, he can still exercise his mandate in Congress today. Since he was confirmed with 78% of the vote in the 2014 congressional elections , he was able to start another legislative period on January 3, 2015, which runs until January 3, 2017. He rejected the option of a further candidacy in 2016 and will therefore leave the congress on January 3, 2017. Ander Crenshaw was a member of the Grants Committee and three of its sub-committees. He is married to Kitty Kirk Crenshaw. His wife is the daughter of former Governor Claude Roy Kirk .
