Robert Wexler

Robert Wexler (born January 2, 1961 in New York City ) is an American politician . Between 1997 and 2010 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Wexler attended Hollywood Hills High School in Florida and then studied at the University of Florida in Gainesville until 1982 . After completing a law degree at George Washington University in Washington, DC and being admitted to the bar in 1985, he began to work in his new profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1990 and 1996 he was a member of the Florida Senate .

In the 1996 congressional election , Wexler was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the 19th  constituency of Florida, where he succeeded Harry A. Johnston on January 3, 1997 . After six re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on January 4, 2010 . There he was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Justice Committee, as well as some sub-committees. During Wexler's time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks fell on September 11, 2001 and the Iraq war . Wexler was an opponent of the policies of the federal government under George W. Bush . In Congress, he sought unsuccessfully to initiate impeachment proceedings against the president. As a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus , he belonged to the left-wing liberal wing within his parliamentary group.

After his resignation, Wexler became president of the Center for Middle East Peace , an organization that tries to negotiate peace in the Middle East. Robert Wexler has three children with his wife Laurie.
