Gus Michael Bilirakis (born February 8, 1963 in Gainesville , Florida ) is an American politician . Since 2007 he has represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Between 1981 and 1983 Gus Bilirakis attended St. Petersburg Junior College . He then studied political science until 1986 at the University of Florida in Gainesville. After completing a law degree at Stetson University and being admitted to the bar in 1989, he began to work in his new profession. He specialized in estate and real estate law. Politically, Bilirakis joined the Republican Party . He supported the election campaigns of his father Michael , who between 1983 and 2007 represented the ninth congressional electoral district of the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives. At the same time he began his own political career.

Between 1998 and 2006, Gus Bilirakis was an MP in the Florida House of Representatives . In the 2006 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the ninth district of Florida , where he succeeded his father on January 3, 2007. After five re-elections so far, he can still exercise his mandate in Congress today. After being re-elected in the 2016 elections , he can take up another two-year term in Congress on January 3, 2017. Since 2013 he has represented the 12th constituency of his state in Congress. Bilirakis is or was a member of the United States House Committee on Energy and Commerce , the Veterans Committee and a total of five sub-committees.

He is married and lives privately in Palm Harbor .
