Palm Harbor is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pinellas County in the US state of Florida with 57,439 residents (as of 2010).
geography
Palm Harbor borders directly on the cities of Tarpon Springs , Oldsmar , Clearwater and Dunedin, and to the west on the Gulf of Mexico . The CDP is located about 20 km west of Tampa and is tangent or traversed by US Highway 19 and Florida State Roads 586 and 595 .
history
Palm Harbor was founded in 1888 under the name Sutherland . The Orange Belt Railway from Sanford to Saint Petersburg, which was completed in the year the town was founded, once ran through Sutherland and Palm Harbor . In 1925 the place was renamed Palm Harbor. After several takeovers, the line was shut down when the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad was founded in 1967.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 57,439 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 30,292 households. The population density was 1276.4 inh / km². 93.5% of the population identified themselves as whites , 2.0% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 1.6% as Asian Americans . 0.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.8% to several ethnic groups. 5.9% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 36.2% of all households lived in 23.2% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 61.5% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.17 people and the average family size was 2.74 people.
19.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 18.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 32.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 30.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 49 years. 47.5% of the population were male and 52.5% were female.
The median annual income was $ 54,233, with 8.2% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 90.21% of the population, 3.44% spoke Spanish and 6.35% had another mother tongue.
