Gulfport is a city in Pinellas County in the US state of Florida with 12,029 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Gulfport is directly adjacent to the cities of Saint Petersburg and South Pasadena as well as the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway . The city is about 25 km south of Clearwater and about 30 km southwest of Tampa .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 12,029 inhabitants were distributed over 7,371 households. The population density was 1647.8 inh / km². 86.1% of the population identified themselves as whites , 9.2% as African-Americans , 0.4% as Indians and 1.2% as Asian Americans . 1.1% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.9% to several ethnic groups. 4.9% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 16.2% of all households and persons aged at least 65 in 37.1% of all households. 47.4% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.95 people and the average family size was 2.62 people.

15.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 18.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 32.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 33.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 51 years. 47.1% of the population were male and 52.9% were female.

The median annual income was $ 39,056, with 16.3% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 89.74% of the population, 4.64% spoke Spanish and 5.62% had another mother tongue.

On August 8, 2014, the Gulfport Casino was added to the National Register of Historic Places .

The crime rate in 2010 was 290 points (US average: 266 points) in the average range. There were two rapes, 15 robberies, 24 bodily harm, 103 break-ins, 330 thefts, 33 car thefts and six arson attacks.
