Safety Harbor is a city in Pinellas County in the US state of Florida with 16,884 inhabitants (as of 2010). The Safety Harbor culture , whose archaeological excavation sites are nearby, was named after this place .

geography

Safety Harbor is directly adjacent to Clearwater to the west, Oldsmar to the northeast, and Tampa Bay to the east . The city is about 20 km west of Tampa .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 16,884 inhabitants were distributed over 8,375 households. The population density was 1329.4 inh / km². 89.7% of the population identified themselves as whites , 4.5% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 2.6% as Asian Americans . 1.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.0% to several ethnic groups. 5.8% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 32.0% of all households lived in 25.3% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 63.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.27 people and the average family size was 2.83 people.

21.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 17.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 34.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 27.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 48 years. 47.5% of the population were male and 52.5% were female.

The median annual income was $ 60,403, with 9.5% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.98% of the population, 4.04% spoke Spanish and 2.98% had another mother tongue.

Safety Harbor is crossed by Florida State Road 590 . The nearest airport is St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport (around 10 km south).

The crime rate in 2010 was 170 points (US average: 266 points) in the low range. There were three rapes, four robberies, 22 assaults, 80 break-ins, 319 thefts, seven car thefts and two arson attacks.
