Pinellas Park is a city in Pinellas County in the US state of Florida with 49,079 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Pinellas Park is located near the west coast of Florida and borders the cities of Saint Petersburg , Largo and Kenneth City . The city is located about 20 km southwest of Tampa . It is part of the Tampa Bay Area with around 2.7 million residents.

history

The city was founded on October 15, 1914. The Orange Belt Railway, completed in 1888, once ran through Pinellas Park from Sanford to Saint Petersburg . After several takeovers, the line was shut down when the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad was founded in 1967.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 49,079 inhabitants were distributed over 23,458 households. The population density was 1220.9 inh / km². 81.7% of the population identified themselves as white , 4.7% as African-American , 0.3% as Native American and 7.3% as Asian Americans . 3.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.7% to several ethnic groups. 10.7% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 26.9% of all households and people aged 65 and over in 32.4% of all households. 60.3% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.32 people and the average family size was 2.89 people.

21.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 25.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 43 years. 48.6% of the population were male and 51.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 43,132, with 12.6% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 88.50% of the population, 4.75% spoke Spanish and 6.75% spoke another language.

Pinellas Park is traversed by Interstate 275 , US Highway 19 and Florida State Roads 686 , 688 , 693 and 694 . With the remote bus system Thruway Motorcoach the railway company Amtrak , there is a connection of the city of Tampa . At Union Station there , you can get a connection to the Silver Star and Silver Meteor trains .

The St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport borders the city directly to the north.

crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 444 points (US average: 266 points) in the average range. There were two murders, 24 rapes, 68 robberies, 169 physical injuries, 471 break-ins, 2207 thefts, 142 car thefts and ten arson.
