Mahnomen is a small town (with the status " City ") and the administrative center of the Mahnomen County in the US -amerikanischen State Minnesota . In 2010 , Mahnomen had 1214 inhabitants.

The city as well as the entire county of the same name are within the White Earth Indian Reservation of Anishinabe .

Mahnomen is located in central northwest Minnesota on the north bank of the Wild Rice River , a right tributary of the Red River of the North . The city is located at 47 ° 18'55 "north latitude, 95 ° 58'07" west longitude and extends over 2.75 km².

Neighboring locations of Mahnomen are Bejou (14.1 km north), Beaulieu (14.2 km east), Waubun (16.5 km south), Twin Valley (28 km west-southwest) and Gary (28.7 km west-northwest).

The nearest major cities are Winnipeg in the Canadian province of Manitoba (321 km north-northwest), Duluth on Lake Superior (339 km east), Minneapolis (378 km southeast) and Fargo in North Dakota (113 km southwest).

The US Highway 59 leads as the main road through the city of Mahnomen and crosses at the northern edge of the city, running from west to east Minnesota State Route 200 . All other roads are subordinate country roads, some unpaved roads and inner-city connecting roads.

A Canadian Pacific Railway runs parallel to US 59 .

With the Mahnomen County Airport is located 7.4 km south of a small regional airport. The nearest international airports are Hector International Airport in Fargo (110 km southwest), Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (329 km northwest) and Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (401 km southeast).
