The Mahnomen County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Minnesota . In 2010 , the county had 5,413 people and a population density of 3.8 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Mahnomen .
The entire county is within the White Earth Indian Reservation of Anishinabe .
geography
The county is located in central northwest Minnesota and about 50 miles to the west from North Dakota . It has an area of 1510 square kilometers, of which 70 square kilometers are water.
The Wild Rice River , a right tributary of the Red River of the North, flows through the county from east to west .

history
Mahnomen County was formed on December 27, 1906 from parts of Norman County. It was named after the Indian word for wild rice .
