The Wilkin County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Minnesota . In 2010 , the county had 6,576 residents and a population density of 3.4 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Breckenridge .

geography

The county is located in western Minnesota at the confluence of the Bois de Sioux River and Otter Tail River to the Red River of the North . The Bois de Sioux River and the Red River form the border with North Dakota . Not far from the southwest county border is the intersection of the three states of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota . history

Wilkin County was formed on March 18, 1858 from parts of Cass County and the defunct Pembina County. It was named after Alexander Wilkin , a colonel in the Union forces who died in the civil war .

According to the 2010 census , Wilkin County had 6,576 people in 2,658 households. The population density was 3.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.43 people lived in each of the 2,658 households.

The racial the population was composed of 97.0 percent white, 0.3 percent African American, 1.2 percent Native American, 0.4 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.0 percent were descended from two or more races.
