The Wilkin County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Minnesota . In 2010 , the county had 6,576 residents and a population density of 3.4 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Breckenridge .
geography
The county is located in western Minnesota at the confluence of the Bois de Sioux River and Otter Tail River to the Red River of the North . The Bois de Sioux River and the Red River form the border with North Dakota . Not far from the southwest county border is the intersection of the three states of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota . history
Wilkin County was formed on March 18, 1858 from parts of Cass County and the defunct Pembina County. It was named after Alexander Wilkin , a colonel in the Union forces who died in the civil war .
