The county is located in central southeast Minnesota on the east bank of the Minnesota River . It has an area of 1227 square kilometers, of which 66 square kilometers are water. The following neighboring counties border Le Sueur County:

history
Le Sueur County was formed on March 5, 1853 from parts of Dakota County. It was named after Pierre Charles Le Sueur .
