Clay County is part of the Fargo – Moorhead Metropolitan Area .

H. Clay

Clay County was formed on March 18, 1858 from parts of the defunct Pembina County. It was named after Henry Clay (1777-1852), a US politician, member of the House of Representatives and the Senate and Secretary of State .
