The Blue Earth County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Minnesota . In 2010 , the county had 64,013 residents and a population density of 32.8 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Mankato , named after the Sioux expression for blue earth .
geography
The county is located south of Minnesota at the confluence of the Blue Earth River and the Minnesota River . It is approximately 25 miles from Iowa and covers an area of 1984 square kilometers, of which 35 square kilometers are water. The following neighboring counties border Blue Earth County:

history
Blue Earth County was formed on March 5, 1853 from parts of Dakota County and designated free territory. It was named after the Blue Earth River.
