The county is located in central southwest Minnesota at the confluence of the Redwood River and the Minnesota River . It covers an area of 2282 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. The following neighboring counties border Redwood County:

history
Redwood County was formed on November 4, 1862 from parts of Brown County. It was named after the Redwood River that flows through the county.
