history
After the country had previously been settled by the Sioux , it came to the US government through the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux in 1851 . Only a strip of land on the Minnesota River remained for the Indians and became reservation land.
In the 1860s the land was surveyed and cleared for repopulation. In 1884 the railroad and with it more settlers came to the region. In 1887 the US government set up a post office at the urging of the settlers in the area. Two years later, the current location was laid out according to plan and incorporated as the Village of Belview in 1892 .

As of the 2010 census , Belview had 384 people in 169 households. The population density was 156.1 people per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.12 people lived in each of the 169 households.
Ethnically, the population consisted only of whites with seven exceptions.
18.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 50.8 percent were between 18 and 64 and 31.0 percent were 65 years or older. 54.9 percent of the population was female.
