The county is located in the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis, just southeast of the geographic center of Minnesota. The easternmost point of the county is formed by the confluence of the Crow River with the Mississippi . Wright County covers an area of 1,850 square kilometers, of which 139 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following neighboring counties:

history
Wright County was formed on February 20, 1855 from parts of Cass County and Sibley County. It was named after Silas Wright (1795-1847), a US politician and member of the US Congress .
