The Aitkin County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Minnesota . In 2010 , the county had 16,202 residents and a population density of 3.4 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Aitkin .
geography
The county is located just northeast of the geographic center of Minnesota and is approximately 55 km to the east from the southern tip of Lake Superior , one of the 5 Great Lakes . history
Aitkin County was formed on May 23, 1857 from parts of Pine County and Ramsey County. Like the district capital, it was named after the fur trader William Alexander Aitkin .
Eleven locations in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places as of January 28, 2018.

According to the 2010 census , Aitkin County had 16,202 people in 7,823 households. The population density was 3.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.06 people lived in each of the 7,823 households.
The racial the population was composed of 95.6 percent white, 0.4 percent African American, 2.4 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.3 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.1 percent of the population.
17.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 54.7 percent were between 18 and 64 and 27.7 percent were 65 years or older. 49.3 percent of the population was female.
