Part of the Leech Lake Indian Reservation is in Hubbard County.

The county is located in north-central Minnesota and has an area of 2588 square kilometers, of which 199 square kilometers are water.
The north-west of the county is traversed by the upper Mississippi . The County has a share in Itasca State Park to the west in neighboring Clearwater County lying Lake Itasca , the source lake of the Mississippi.

Hubbard County was formed from parts of Cass County on February 26, 1883. It was named after Lucius Frederick Hubbard (1836-1913), a US politician and the ninth governor of Minnesota.
Four buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of January 29, 2018).
Demographic data
As of the 2010 census , Hubbard County had 20,428 people in 8,640 households. The population density was 8.6 people per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.33 people lived in each of the 8,640 households.
The racial the population was composed of 94.6 percent white, 0.3 percent African American, 2.9 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian, 0.1 percent Polynesian and other ethnic groups; 1.8 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.7 percent of the population.
21.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 57.2 percent were between 18 and 64 and 21.4 percent were 65 years or older. 49.6 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was 45,733 USD . The per capita income was $ 24,869. 12.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
