geography
The county is located in the southwestern suburb of Minneapolis in south-central Minnesota. It has an area of 974 square kilometers, of which 49 square kilometers are water.
The southeastern border of the county is formed by the Minnesota River , which flows into the Mississippi on the southern outskirts of Minnesota's capital Saint Paul . The southern arm of the Crow River , which also flows into the Mississippi above Minneapolis, runs through the middle of the county .
The county is located in a landscape rich in lakes. In the north it shares in Lake Minnetonka . The largest lake that is entirely within Carver County is Lake Waconia .
In the southeast, Carver County is part of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge , a nature reserve along the Minnesota River.

Carver County was formed on February 20, 1855 from parts of Hennepin County and Sibley County. It was named after Jonathan Carver , an explorer of the American continent.

As of the 2010 census , Carver County had 91,042 people in 32,715 households. The population density was 98.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.72 people lived in each of the 32,715 households.
The racial the population was composed of 94.0 percent white, 1.4 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 2.8 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.4 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 4.0 percent of the population regardless of ethnicity.
29.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 61.8 percent were between 18 and 64 and 8.7 percent were 65 years or older. 50.3 percent of the population was female.
