Waconia is a city in Carver County in Minnesota , United States . At the 2010 census, the place had 10,697 inhabitants. In 2000 there were still 6,814 inhabitants. As part of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area, the city is gradually becoming a suburb of Minneapolis , 44 kilometers as the crow flies and 56 kilometers by road to the northeast.
Demographic data
At the time of the United States Census 2000, Waconia had 6814 inhabitants. The population density was 939.6 people per km ². There were 2646 housing units at an average of 364.9 per km ². The Waconia population was 97.06% White , 0.34% Black or African American , 0.12% Native American , 0.65% Asian , 0.01% Pacific Islander , 1.00% said other races belong to and 0.82% mentioned two or more races. 1.28% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
The residents of Waconia were distributed to 2,568 households out of which 40.7% had children under the age of 18. 61.0% of households were married, 7.8% had a female head of household without a husband, and 28.0% were not families. 23.3% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 12.2% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.12.
