Detlev Schmidtchen

Detlev Schmidtchen (born October 16, 1954 in Wolfenbüttel ) is a German rock musician, he plays keyboard and guitar .

Detlev Schmidtchen started in 1970 as a guitarist in a school band. In the following year he founded the amateur band Getriebe in Hanover , which won the 1975 “Pop 75” festival in the Niedersachsenhalle . The winner was given recording time in a recording studio (as a vinyl single , "Syncron", released in small numbers), but also the opportunity to have dinner with the festival's headliner, the group Eloy . A first contact with Frank Bornemann , the head of Eloy , was given and, after the two bands soon broke up, resulted in Schmidtchen becoming a full member of the new Eloy line-up .

Schmidtchen was a member of Eloy from 1976 to 1979 . Initially as a second guitarist, but after a short time mainly on the keyboards. Then he founded the group Ego on the Rocks with the drummer Jürgen Rosenthal (also ex-member of Eloy ) , which only released one album with “Acid In Wounderland” (1981). During this time he also worked on the concept album "Warlock - Memories of a White Magician" (1981) by Jon Symon . He then teamed up with another former Eloy musician, Manfred Wieczorke (guitar, keyboard). The duo first made music in the style of the NDW under the name Piefke & Pafke and the guys from the darkroom in 1982 and 1983 , later projects with instrumental music ran under the names "The Trick", "Animator" and "Choco".

In 2007, Detlev Schmidtchen's first solo CD was released, a concept album in which there was again a collaboration with Jürgen Rosenthal.
