Manfred Wieczorke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manfred Wieczorke (born April 28, 1946 in Hanover ) is a German keyboardist , guitarist , composer and producer . He was best known for his membership in Eloy and Jane .

Wieczorke began playing in bands from the mid-1960s, the first few years mainly on the electric guitar . His first band was the beat band "The Black Stones", which was soon joined by Helmut Draht , who later, in 1969, suggested him as a guitarist for the Eloy, who were just starting out .

Manfred stayed with Eloy until 1975, but switched to keyboard instruments around 1972 ; He had already bought an organ before joining Eloy and learned the game himself.

He then joined Jane , from whom he separated in 1979 due to musical differences. In 1980 there was an opportunity to return to work at Eloy, but Manfred refused.

In 1980 Manfred founded his own recording studio (“Nautilus”) and began to produce other bands as well.

“Firehorse” was to be his last, own band project: after the release of the album “On the wind”, the band came to an early end due to the singer's departure shortly before the start of their England tour.

Various solo projects followed, but also joint projects with the former Eloy keyboardist Detlev Schmidtchen ("Animator", "The Trick", "Choco" and Piefke & Pafke and the boys from the darkroom ).

In his private life he developed a great preference for North Africa , especially Morocco , which he visited for the first time in 1982. This is where the nickname "Mafie Maroc" comes from .
