Many residents of the community have German ancestors, which is why the foundation festival has been held every year in August for over 140 years, a kind of small Oktoberfest with music in the beer tent and some outdoor attractions. A German brass band is flown in every year.
Norwood goes back to 1872, the history of Young America begins in 1856. The city was formed by the merger of the parishes of Norwood and Young America on January 1, 1997. Because of the somewhat long name, the name of the city is often abbreviated to NYA .
At the time of the United States Census 2000, Norwood Young America had 3108 people. The population density was 718.6 people per km ². There were 1201 housing units at an average of 277.7 per km ².
