Jonathan Carver
Jonathan Carver (born April 13, 1710 in Weymouth , Massachusetts , † January 31, 1780 ) was an American-British explorer .
Life
Carver was the son of David Carver, a public figure who held several offices. The family also owned a mill. When Carver was a boy, they moved to Canterbury, Connecticut. Carver married Abigail (nee Robbins) in 1746 and had two daughters before the family settled in Montague, Massachusetts, where five more children were born. Carver joined the British colonial army in 1755 and took part in the French and Indian War since 1757 . In 1766 he made a trip to the Upper Mississippi and from there to Lake Superior .
In 1768 he went to England to share his discoveries. In 1778 his travels were published in London under the title Travels through the interior parts of North America in the years 1766–68 .
