Ramsey County is located in the center of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area .

The county is located in southeast Minnesota, about 35 km to the east from Wisconsin . It has an area of 441 square kilometers, of which 37 square kilometers are water. In the far southeast of the county, the Minnesota River flows into the Mississippi .

history
The Ramsey County was from parts of the only in the October 27, 1849 Wisconsin existing St. Croix County formed. It was named after Alexander Ramsey (1815–1903), the second governor of Minnesota (1860–1863) and US Secretary of War (1879–1881).
Three locations in Ramsey County have National Historic Landmark status , Frank B. Kellogg House , James J. Hill House, and F. Scott Fitzgerald House . A total of 111 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of January 31, 2018).
