Roseville is a city in the US state of Minnesota . It is located in Ramsey County .
geography
Roseville belongs to the northern metropolitan area of Minneapolis-Saint Paul in the American Midwest . The city shares city limits with Minneapolis to the southwest and St. Paul to the south . It is the only city next to Lauderdale that borders on both Twin Cities.
According to the United States Census Bureau , the area of the city is 35.8 square kilometers, of which 1.5 square kilometers is water.
history
The areas around Roseville were originally inhabited by the Dakota and Ojibwe Indians. The first white settlers arrived around 1843 and the natives left the region in 1862. Rose Township was established in 1850. It was named after one of the first settlers, Isaac Rose. The Township included not only the faces of today's cities Roseville, Lauderdale and Falcon Heights also areas of present-day St. Paul.
The upswing from the rural village to the suburb of St. Paul and Minneapolis began in the 1930s and 1940s. On April 14, 1948, Roseville was founded as a village within the township . With the founding of Falcon Heights and Lauderdale in 1949 as independent cities, the Rose Township was dissolved. Economic and population growth accelerated in the 1950s and 1960s. In the following period, a greater focus was placed in urban planning on sustainable development and conservation, which meant a stagnation of the population since around 1970.

According to the 2000 census , Roseville has 33,690 people in 14,598 households and 8,598 families. The racial the population is composed of 89.5 percent white population, 4.9 percent Asian American, 2.8 percent African American and other smaller or more groups. 2.0 percent of the population are Hispanics .

Roseville is a Statutory City with a council-manager system under Chapter 412 of the Minnesota State Statutes (Plan B). The City Council consists of an elected mayor and four other elected members. The city manager selected by the council manages the day-to-day business of the city.
Craig Klausing has been Mayor of Roseville since 2003. City Manager is Bill Malinen.

Roseville's tax rates are among the lowest in the metropolitan area. Numerous shops and restaurants have settled in the past. Larger shopping centers are the Rosedale Center (107,000 square meters of retail space) and the Har Mar Mall (40,000 square meters of retail space). The first Target supermarket and Barnes & Noble bookstore outside of New York City also opened in Roseville . The first McDonald’s restaurant in Minnesota was also built there. Major employers include McGough Construction , Unisys, and Presbyterian Homes & Services . The world's fifth largest board game manufacturer Fantasy Flight Games , the chip and snack manufacturer Old Dutch Foods , part of the Minnesota Department of Transportation and Education, and the Minnesota State Lottery are also based in Roseville. Roseville has around 37,900 employees ( Council Annual Estimates , 2006).

Interstate 35 W runs through Roseville. Minnesota State Routes 36 , 51 (Snelling Avenue), and 280 are other major thoroughfares. A Minnesota Commercial Railway line runs through town.
Sport and recreation
There are 30 urban parks in Roseville covering an area of 255 hectares. These include 103 kilometers of walking and hiking trails. The Harriet Alexander Nature Center is located in Central Park. There is also a golf course.
The Guidant John Rose Minnesota Oval is one of the world's largest open artificial ice rinks. It consists of a 400-meter oval track and an inner field with a total area of around 10,200 square meters. It is usually open from November to March. Larger events take place there regularly. These include, for example, the bandy championships ( world championships for men in 1995 and for women in 2006 ) and various speed skating competitions. In the summer months the area is used for skating , aggressive inline skating , BMX and roller hockey .
