The St. Croix County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 the county had 84,345 residents and a population density of 45.1 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Hudson , which was named after the Hudson River .

St. Croix County is part of the Minneapolis  -  Saint Paul metropolitan area .

history

St. Croix County was formed in 1840 as the original county from parts of the Wisconsin Territory . It was named after the St. Croix River on the county's western border. The origin of the name is controversial. One theory is based on the name of a French explorer named St. Croix , another says that the Belgian Franciscan Father Louis Hennepin named the river after the Holy Cross (French: St. Croix ).
