The Winnebago County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 , the county had 166,994 residents and a population density of 147 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Oshkosh , which was named after an Indian chief of the Menominee .

The county is located in eastern Wisconsin and has an area of 1499 square kilometers, of which 363 square kilometers are water. In Winnebago County, the upper section of the Fox River flows into Lake Winnebago .

history
Winnebago County was formed in 1840 as the original county from parts of the Wisconsin Territory. It was named after the indigenous people of the Winnebago .

The racial the population was composed of 93.4 percent white, 1.9 percent African American, 0.7 percent Native American, 2.5 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.4 percent were descended from two or more races.
