The county is located in eastern central Wisconsin and has an area of 1982 square kilometers, of which 37 square kilometers are water.
Waupaca County is traversed by the Waupaca River in the south and the Little Wolf River in the center, both of which flow into the Wolf River within the county . This is part of the Green Bay catchment area of Lake Michigan via the Fox River .

history
Waupaca County was formed in 1851 from parts of Brown County and Winnebago County. It was named after an expression of the Menominee "wau-pa-ka-ho-nak", which means something like white sandy soil or good young hero .
