The Door County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 , the county had 27,785 residents and a population density of 22.2 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Sturgeon Bay , which was named after the Sturgeon Bay des Green Bays . The county offers many tourist attractions.

Door County is located in eastern Wisconsin on Lake Michigan. It is located in the northeast of the Door Peninsula , which separates Green Bay from Lake Michigan proper. In addition, some islands in Lake Michigan and Green Bay belong to the county, the largest of which is Washington Island .
The county has an area of 6138 square kilometers, of which 4888 square kilometers are water.

history
Door County was formed in 1851 from parts of Brown County. The name is derived from the dangerous strait between the Door Peninsula and Washington Island , which is lined with shipwrecks. The French called this place Porte des Morts , later door of the dead , from which Door County developed.

As of the 2010 census , Door County had 27,785 people in 13,695 households. The population density was 22.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.01 people lived in each of the 13,695 households.
The racial the population was composed of 97.2 percent white, 0.6 percent African American, 0.7 percent Native American, 0.5 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.0 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.7 percent of the population.
17.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 57.9 percent were between 18 and 64 and 24.5 percent were 65 years or older. 50.7 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was 48,707 USD . The per capita income was $ 30,509. 11.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.

State parks
The visitor bureau promotes five state parks. A sixth state park is on Detroit Island and has no access to the ferry.
