The county is located in southwest Wisconsin and is bordered to the west by the Mississippi , which forms the border with Minnesota . The northern border of the county is formed by the Black River . In the center, the county is traversed by the La Crosse River until it flows into the Mississippi north of the center of the city of the same name.

La Crosse County has an area of ​​1,243 square kilometers, of which 70 square kilometers are water.

history

La Crosse County was formed on March 1, 1851 from parts of Crawford County. Like the district capital, it was named after a game that the Indians played here.
