The Black River is a left tributary of the Mississippi River in the US state of Wisconsin .
The Black River has its source 4 km west of Rib Lake . It flows in a predominantly south-southwest direction through western Wisconsin. It flows through the places Medford , Greenwood , Neillsville and Black River Falls . Finally, the Black River flows north of La Crosse into the Mississippi River, which is dammed up to Lake Onalaska . The Black River has a length of 310 km.
