The Oneida County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 , the county had 35,998 residents and a population density of 12.4 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Rhinelander , named after F. W. Rhinelander , a president of the Lakeshore and Western Railroad .

The county is located in northern Wisconsin and about 22 miles from Michigan . It has an area of ​​3201 square kilometers, of which 288 square kilometers are water.

From northeast to southwest the county is traversed by the upper reaches of the Wisconsin River , a left tributary of the Mississippi .

history

Oneida County was formed in 1885 from parts of Lincoln County. It was named after the indigenous people of Oneida , one of the six Iroquois nations .
