The Jefferson County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 , the county had 83,686 residents and a population density of 58 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Jefferson .
geography
The county is located in southeastern Wisconsin, about 40 km from Illinois in the south, and about 60 km from Lake Michigan in the east . It has an area of 1509 square kilometers, of which 67 square kilometers are water.
The county is traversed from north to southwest by the Rock River , a left tributary of the Mississippi . In the extreme southwest, the river leaves the county as it flows through Lake Koshkonong .

history
Jefferson County was formed in 1836 from parts of Milwaukee County. It was named, like the district capital, probably after the origins of early settlers, Jefferson County in New York or after the third US President Thomas Jefferson .
Historical objects
- The Fort Atkinson Water Tower is in Fort Atkinson . The water tower was added as a historical monument in 2005.
- In Waterloo, at the intersection of Madison Street and Monroe Street , is the historic Waterloo Downtown Historic District . The area includes 29 buildings. It was listed on November 8, 2000 on the National Register of Historic Places as a Historic District with number 00001360.
