Fort Atkinson Water Tower
The Fort Atkinson Water Tower is a former water tower with historical relevance. The 1901 cylinder-shaped structure is located in Fort Atkinson , Jefferson County , in the US state of Wisconsin , in the United States . Located at the junction of South High Street and Fourth Street , it was closed in 1988.
The building, which is more than a hundred years old, was supposed to be demolished in 1999, but was saved from demolition by local residents as part of a fundraising campaign. The tower was renovated, and most importantly, the lead paint was removed. The conversion cost $ 450,000.
The foundation is made of limestone , the base is made of brick . The roof and the walls of the tower in the interior (water tank) are metalwork and were overhauled in 2015.
The Fort Atkinson Water Tower was listed as a Historic Monument on November 15, 2005 by the National Register of Historic Places with the number 05001298.
