The county is located in east central Wisconsin, about 20 km west of Green Bay on Lake Michigan . It has an area of ​​2355 square kilometers, of which 44 square kilometers are water.

The Wolf River , which belongs to the catchment area of ​​Lake Michigan via the Fox River , flows through Shawano County from north to south and forms the outflow of Shawano Lake in the middle of the county .
