The Shawano County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 , the county had 41,949 residents and a population density of 18.2 people per square kilometer. By 2013 the population had decreased to 41,643. The county seat is Shawano .
geography
The county is located in east central Wisconsin, about 20 km west of Green Bay on Lake Michigan . It has an area of 2355 square kilometers, of which 44 square kilometers are water.
The Wolf River , which belongs to the catchment area of Lake Michigan via the Fox River , flows through Shawano County from north to south and forms the outflow of Shawano Lake in the middle of the county . The western part of the county is drained by the Embarrass River , which flows into the Wolf River in neighboring Waupaca County to the south.

Shawano County was formed in 1853 from parts of Oconto County. It was named, like the district capital, after the Indian expression for south or south .
