The Sauk County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 , the county had 61,976 residents and a population density of 28.6 people per square kilometer. By 2013 the population increased to 63,162. The county seat is Baraboo , which was named after the Baraboo River .
geography
The county is located in south-central Wisconsin and has an area of 2,197 square kilometers, of which 28 square kilometers are water.
It is bounded on the northeast, southeast and south by the Wisconsin River , a left tributary of the Mississippi . The Baraboo River flows through the county from west to east, before flowing into the Wisconsin River in neighboring Columbia County.

Sauk County was formed on January 11, 1840 from parts of Crawford County, Dane County and Portage County. It was named after the indigenous Sauk people .

According to the 2010 census , Sauk County had 61,976 people in 25,461 households. The population density was 28.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.4 people lived in each of the 25,461 households.
The racial the population was composed of 95.9 percent white, 0.8 percent African American, 1.4 percent Native American, 0.7 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.2 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 4.8 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.
23.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 60.4 percent were between 18 and 64 and 16.4 percent were 65 years or older. 50.3 percent of the population were female.
