Prairie du Sac originated from a French settlement along the Wisconsin River . The name, Prairie of the Sauk , comes from a former Sauk settlement in the Wisconsin River Valley.
The town has the headquarters of the restaurant chain Culver's and the Cistercians - Convent Valley of Our Lady Monastery.
