The Outagamie County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 , the county had 176,695 people and a population density of 106.6 people per square kilometer. By 2012 the population increased to 178,816. The county seat is Appleton , named after Samuel Appleton of Boston , father-in-law of Amos A. Lawrence , founder of Lawrence University .
geography
The county lies in the east of Wisconsin between the Lake Michigan belonging to Green Bay and Lake Winnebago . It is about 15 km to the northeast and about 60 km to the east from Lake Michigan and has an area of 1669 square kilometers, of which 11 square kilometers are water.
In the southeast it is traversed by the lower reaches of the Fox River ; through the west of the county flow the Wolf River and its tributary, the Embarras River , both of which belong to the river system of the Fox River.

history
Outagamie County was formed in 1851 from parts of Brown County. It was named after an Indian expression which, loosely translated, means people from the opposite bank .
