The Lawrence University is a small university in Appleton , Wisconsin .

history

The Lawrence Institute was founded in 1847 by Methodist preachers William Harkness Sampson, Henry Root Colman, and Shipowner Smith, and named after the merchant Amos A. Lawrence, who provided $ 10,000 to build a college. In 1913 it became Lawrence College and in 1964 Lawrence University . The university now teaches about 1,500 students. The university also includes the Lawrence Conservatory . Lawrence is considered one of the best small American “liberal arts colleges”.
