The Town of Buchanan is located in eastern Wisconsin, in the eastern suburbs of the city of Appleton on the south bank of the Fox River , which flows into the Green Bay of Lake Michigan about 40 km northeast .

The four-lane Wisconsin State Highway 441 , the eastern bypass of Appleton, delimits the town to the west. The Wisconsin State Highway 55 runs north-south. Furthermore, the county highways N, Q, Z, CE, KK and ZZ lead through the area of the Town of Buchanan. All other roads are subordinate country roads, some unpaved roads and inner-city connecting roads.
The Outagamie County Regional Airport is located approximately 30 km west of the Town of Buchanan.
