The Roman Catholic parish church Weyer stands on a hill outside the market center of the municipality Weyer in the Steyr-Land district in Upper Austria . It is consecrated to the Evangelist Johannes and belongs to the Weyer pastoral care room in the Weyer deanery . The church is a listed building .

history

The parish Weyer an der Enns was first mentioned in a document during the consecration in 1259. The Gothic church was expanded and rededicated in 1443. From 1848 to 1852 the sacred building was expanded to include the transept and the choir as part of a comprehensive restoration.

Church building

The church consists of a single-nave, four-bay, Gothic nave with ribbed vaults . The transept is two yokes long with 3/8 key on both sides. The south tower, which is set halfway into the nave, comes from the Gothic period in the lower area. The tower chapel is cross-vaulted with stucco from 1745. The three-axis choir rests on ribbed and star-ribbed vaults . Gothic frescoes have been preserved in the church . One shows the " Annunciation of the Lord " and dates from the first quarter of the 14th century. In the vault of the nave there are also the symbols of the evangelists, which were created in the middle of the 15th century. Both frescoes were uncovered in 1949 and in some cases heavily restored.

Furnishing

The high altar was created in the middle of the 18th century and changed during a restoration in 1849. The altarpiece was painted at the end of the 17th century and comes from an artist close to Johann Karl von Reslfeld . The St. Mary's altar in the Rococo style dates from the third quarter of the 18th century. On the altar is a remarkable statue of Our Lady from the second quarter of the 17th century. It could come from Hans Spindler or his environment. The pulpit was documented in 1711 by the carpenter Bartholomäo Riedelsberger from Weyer. In the nave there are some baroque statues, some from the 17th century. In the church there is also a Gothic baptismal font, a Baroque holy water font and several Gothic and Baroque tombstones. The organ with two manuals and 26 sounding stops, built in 1912 by Matthäus Mauracher from St. Florian , is no longer in use and is in urgent need of restoration. The bell was cast in 1711.

The history of the furnishings was expanded with new objects by the sculptor Alois Lindenbauer, who lives in Weyer . The semicircular curvature of maple wood and red limestone is based on the example of leaves from nature that are laid on top of one another as the leitmotif of the new elements. Altar, ambo, candlesticks and vases, carpets are shaped by it.
