"Mariae Himmelfahrt", high altar painting (on canvas), Seitenstetten Abbey

Johann Karl von Reslfeld (* 1658 in Schwaz ; † January 13, 1735 in Garsten ) was an Austrian baroque painter .

Life

Born in 1658 in the Tyrolean Schwaz as Johann Carl Resler, he came to Steyr at an early age , where he received the support of Baron von Riesenfels . This enabled him to spend four years in Venice with Johann Carl Loth (Carlo Lotto). In 1684 he returned and joined the Garsten Monastery as a pen painter . He initially received a scholarship of 200 florins there  , but soon joined the house association as a familiar . However, this was not an exclusive relationship, because he also carried out other work, for example for the Provost Prince Losenstein in Passau. Reslfeld died on January 13, 1735 in Garsten Abbey.
