geography

The county is located in southwest Wisconsin. It borders Illinois in the south, the Mississippi forms the border with Iowa in the west , while the northern border is formed by the Wisconsin River to its confluence with the Mississippi. history

Grant County was formed in 1836 as the original county from parts of the Wisconsin Territory. It was named after the Grant River , which flows through the county, or after one of the first traders named Grant , who traded with the Indians here.
