New Richmond is located in the northwestern suburbs of the Twin City , around 15 km east of the St. Croix River , which forms the border with Minnesota. The city is located at 45 ° 07'11 "north latitude and 92 ° 32'21" west longitude and extends over 24.22 km².

Neighboring New Richmond is Star Prairie (8.6 km north), Roberts (17.1 km south), and Somerset (11.6 km west).

Downtown Minneapolis is 70 km west-southwest; central Saint Paul , the capital of Minnesota, is 38 miles southwest. Rochester , Minnesota's third largest city, is 151 km south. Eau Claire , the ninth largest city in Wisconsin, is 109 km east-southeast.

The Wisconsin State Highway 65 runs in a north-south direction as the main road through downtown New Richmond. In the north of the urban area, the Wisconsin State Highway 64 crosses , some of which are four lanes. All other roads are subordinate, partly unpaved roads as well as inner-city connecting roads.

In a west-east direction, a SOO Line Railroad runs through downtown New Richmond.

In the extreme north of the urban area is the New Richmond Municipal Airport, a small airfield. The nearest major airport is Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, 81.8 km southwest .
