The Rock County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Minnesota . In 2010 the county had 9,687 residents and a population density of 7.7 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Luverne .
geography
The county is located in the extreme southwest of Minnesota on the high plateau called Coteau des Prairies , which extends from eastern South Dakota to southwest Minnesota and northwestern Iowa .
The county covers an area of 1,251 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water. From north to south the county is traversed by the Rock River , a tributary of the Big Sioux River that flows into the Missouri .
In the center of the county is Blue Mounds State Park , a 634 acre state park .

history
Rock County was formed on May 23, 1857 from parts of Brown County. It was named after a large rock plateau that lies within the county.
