Moody County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State South Dakota . In 2010 , the county had 6,486 people and a population density of 4.8 people per square kilometer. The county seat is in Flandreau .
Within Moody County is the Flandreau Reservation of the Mdewakanton , a subgroup of the Sioux .

The county is located in eastern South Dakota on the border with Minnesota at approx. 500 m . It has an area of 1350 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers are water. Moody County was formed on January 8, 1873. It was named after Colonel Gideon C. Moody , a politician, Supreme Court Justice of South Dakota from 1878 to 1883, and US Senator from 1889 to 1891 . 1865 approved Congress 25,000 USD for the construction of a road from Sioux City to Fort Randall on Elk Point , Vermillion and Yankton . For the construction of the very first bridge over the Big Sioux River , Moody, who also served as supervisor for this project, had a transportable sawmill built so that the wood required could be cut on site.

Population development
According to the 2010 census , there were 6,486 people in 2,614 households in Moody County. The population density was 4.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.45 people lived in the 2614 households.
The racial the population was composed of 81.9 percent white, 0.6 percent African American, 13.9 percent Native American, 1.1 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 2.5 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.9 percent of the population.
25.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 58.9 percent were between 18 and 64 and 15.3 percent were 65 years or older. 50.0 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was 49,016 USD . The per capita income was $ 24,596. 9.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
