Codington County is a county in the northeast of the US state of South Dakota , United States .

geography

The district has an area of ​​1857 square kilometers; 76 square kilometers (4.10 percent) of this is water. It is divided into 17 townships: Dexter, Eden, Elmira, Fuller, Germantown, Graceland, Henry, Kampeska, Kranzburg, Lake, Leola, Pelican, Phipps, Rauville, Richland, Sheridan and Waverly.

history

The county was established on February 15, 1877, and administration was finally organized on August 7, 1878. It was named after GS Codington, a Protestant clergyman and MP in the Dakota Territory Legislative Assembly .

The Corson Emminger Round Barn is one of 43 entries for the county in the NRHP.
