Hanson County is a county in the state of South Dakota in the United States . It has 3139 inhabitants. The county seat is Alexandria .

The district has an area of ​​1128 square kilometers; of which 2 square kilometers (0.20 percent) are water. It is divided into 12 townships: Beulah, Edgerton, Emery, Fairview, Hanson, Jasper, Plano, Rosedale, Springlake, Taylor, Wayne and Worthen.

history

The county was incorporated on January 13, 1871 and the administrative organization was completed on August 16, 1873. It was named after Joseph R. Hanson, an Indian agent and MP in the Legislative Assembly of the Dakota Territory .

One place in the county has National Historic Landmark status , the Bloom Site archaeological site . Six buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of August 2, 2018).
