Hutchison County is a county in the state of South Dakota in the United States .

The county covers an area of ​​2109 square kilometers; 4 square kilometers (0.19 percent) of it is water. It is divided into 23 townships: Capital, Clayton, Cross Plains, Fair, Foster, German, Grandview, Hassel, Kaylor, Kuim, Liberty, Mittown, Molan, Oak Hollow, Pleasant, Sharon, Silver Lake, Starr, Susquehanna, Sweet, Valley, Wittenberg and Wolf Creek.

history

The county was incorporated on May 8, 1862 and the administrative organization was completed on January 13, 1871. It was named after John S. Hutchinson (1829-1889) who was the secretary and executive governor of the Dakota Territory .
